Adolescence is a critical period for the development of adaptation mechanisms, particularly in the context of scientific activity, which requires the ability to innovate, overcome failure, and plan strategically. This article, based on a master's thesis, analyzes the relationship between proactive coping behavior and cognitive flexibility in adolescents. The novelty of the study lies in its examination of these constructs in the context of science education, with an emphasis on the role of women and girls in science (in honor of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11). Pevneva's work on rigidity as the opposite of flexibility is integrated. Empirical data (n = 60 adolescents) confirm a positive correlation (r = 0.47; p < 0.01) between the variables. Gender aspects are discussed: the absence of significant gender differences indicates the universality of the mechanisms, but it is emphasized how the development of these qualities helps girls overcome barriers in STEM fields. The results offer recommendations for programs to support young female scientists.
