Abstract

The article considers the issue of determining the word class of independent words based on the semantic approach. Based on the materials of English and Chinese, cases of true transposition accompanied by a change in lexical meaning and formal use without semantic shift are distinguished. Special attention is paid to lexical separation in Chinese and its role in the interpretation of nominative clauses.
